Jann Kenbrovin

Could not have said this better myself.

"...the remit for the next manager is to play an attacking possession based game, with a focus on buying high potential players and bringing through our youth."

That is why DM is unsuited to our club.

Carrick’s done quite well but just 2 seasons he needs to have done as well as the bloke at Ipswich imo before we go taking a punt on him. If he can get Boro up next season maybe but too early to say he’s got what it takes.

Be interested to know what it was that Steidten or others saw in or heard about Alonso to make that appointment? He was coaching a youth team wasnt he? Was it an analysis of results that convinced too albeit with a second or third tier side? Or simply his name and reputation?

Is this part of the carrick deal ‘?

If Palace can get Oliver Glasner, then we can get someone better than Carrick.

I think that comment sums it up .

We need a manager who gets us to score early, then again at 30 minutes, then again at 60 minutes and then a last minute winner. Week in week out.

If they identify him and think he's the right man for the job, Jaan, I'll get on board with it.

He won't be getting it, though, so we won't find out

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Carrick gets mentioned because anyone who takes over a club in 21st place after 16 games and has them finishing the season in 4th has got to have some decent qualities as a manager. Probably the only other manager who's achieved that kind of massive change in fortune recently has been the Stuttgart manager, Hoeness.

That said, you would have expected Boro to have done better this season that they have, although getting to the cup semi and just missing out on the play offs probably ain't bad considering their injuries and the fact that they're still selling off their best players each year.

Oh well that must mean Carrick isn't good enough then.

They obviously saw something in him, and done their research. The big surprise is they didn't go for Carrick.

I suggested we went for Xabi Alonso before he went to Leverkusen. I suppose that would have seriously lacked ambition.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Also, there's a raft of managers that have had similar situations to him in the Championship, and done much better. The fella at Luton took an awful team up, Heckingbottom as well. That's the bit what makes me unsure, and as goose says, he wouldn't be getting a mention if he hadn't played for us and won stuff at Man Utd.

I'm not completely against an appointment like that as such, but it needs to be because they've really seen something there with him, like what happened with Alonso. But he's a rarity, and we can do much better than Carrick, who has done decent enough under so so conditions. We can get a manager who has achieved things, AND plays good football and introduces youth. We pay top dollar and offer a significant warchest ffs

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Carrick has been getting mentioned since last year because he was doing well as a young manager, same as Vincent Kompany was, had nothing to do with him playing for us.

Carrick would not be mentioned if he wasn’t ex West Ham.

I hate this obsession we have with former players as managers - like we do something different that nobody else understands.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Oh yeah, I forgot about his achievements during his playing career.

Anyway, he won't be coming to us, unfortunately. Maybe Man Utd will give him the job given he won all that stuff with them.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Roy Keane achieved more as a player. I wouldn't want him managing us.

I'm trying to remember the last Championship manager who made the step up to a new job at a Premier League club and was successful?

The last that made that step were Chris Wilder, Nathan Jones, Steve Bruce and Frank Lampard.

"and properly looked into why he didn't win the play-offs last season, and why he won't even reach them this season"

They sold all their best players.... he still has them just missing out on the play off's despite a depleted squad and appalling injuries and play decent football, he's young and has fresh ideas.

But you are right I doubt anyone would want to sign for an Ex Man Utd Captain who played for them over 300 times, won the title 5 times, the champions league, the europa league, the world club cup, the FA cup and 3 cups, as they'd think "what has he achieved"

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Appointing Carrick wouldn’t display any lack of ambition, if the remit for the next manager is to play an attacking possession based game, with a focus on buying high potential players and bringing through our youth. Which he could potentially be suited to.

If you just want as high profile and established as we can get that’s fine, but it doesn’t represent ambition and lacks foresight into nurturing potential. Which is why we have Moyes.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
If they have identified what he's doing at Borough and properly looked into why he didn't win the play-offs last season, and why he won't even reach them this season after having enough time to implement his ideas, and they think still he's the best option in world football at the moment, I'll be onboard.

However, those that think he's the best option are basing it on the fact he played for us and was an excellent player. The fella that took Luton up, why not him? Heckingbottom got Sheffield Utd up, will he do?

We are at a point where we need a massive overhaul of the squad, we'll have a nice few quid to spend, I think we should be aiming for much better. Would any of our rivals appoint him? No chance. Villa got Emery ffs, not a mid table Championship manager.

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
Isn't bringing in a young manager with fresh ideas what we want? Thought that was part of why we wanted rid of Moyes. Not arguing, as I see your point, just a genuine question..

Re: If David Moyes leaves West Ham who would you want to replace him?
I suppose appointing Carrick would tie in with the lack of ambition a lot of our fans have. I like to think we're a bit better than a mid table Championship manager, obviously not.

Hopefully they've got Steve Cooper's number, he achieved much more than Carrick under similar conditions at a similar club.
